Classroom Policy, Rules & Attendance
Clear expectations protect the learning of every child in the room. These standards apply to all Solomon Heights Academy students, Pre-K through 12th grade, and to every parent serving in a classroom.
Classroom Rules
Six standards, every classroom, every day
Honor every person in the room
Speak to teachers, parents, and classmates with respect. No name-calling, mocking, teasing, or gossip. Disagree with ideas, never attack people.
Arrive ready and on time
Be seated with materials out when class begins. Homework is turned in at the start of class, not at the end of the day.
Protect the learning
One voice at a time. Raise your hand to speak, stay in your seat during instruction, and let others finish their thoughts before you begin yours.
Dress the standard
The daily uniform is worn without exception: yellow poplin dress shirt, black cross bow tie, black sweater vest, black dress pants for boys, and black skirts or dresses below the knee for girls. Fringes worn as required. See the Uniforms page for details.
Devices serve the lesson
Phones stay in bags and powered off during instruction. Tablets and laptops are used only for assigned work.
Own your work and your space
Do your own work, cite what you borrow, clean your area before dismissal, and treat books, tools, and the building as shared property.
Code of Conduct
How we respond when a standard is broken
Discipline at Solomon Heights is restorative. Our aim is always to return the student to the classroom with the relationship intact and the standard understood.
Step 1 — Redirect
The teacher gives a private verbal reminder and resets the expectation in the moment.
Step 2 — Reflect
The student steps aside to complete a short reflection sheet and rejoins the class. The parent is notified the same day.
Step 3 — Family conference
The teacher, parent, and student meet to build a written plan with specific, measurable goals and a follow-up date.
Step 4 — Administrative review
The Principal reviews the record and may assign a restorative service, a supervised day, or a temporary suspension of co-op privileges.
Immediate removal
Violence, threats, weapons, theft, drugs, alcohol, or repeated harassment result in immediate removal from class and an administrative hearing before return.
Attendance
Attendance policy
Consistent attendance is the single strongest predictor of a student's progress in our four-day academic week.
| Code | What it means |
|---|---|
| Present | Student is in class at the start of the session and stays for the full day. |
| Tardy | Arrival after the bell. Three tardies in a term equal one unexcused absence and trigger a parent note. |
| Excused Absence | Illness, family emergency, medical appointment, or observance of a Holy Day, reported to the office within 24 hours. |
| Unexcused Absence | Any absence without notice within 24 hours. Missed work may be graded down per the teacher's syllabus. |
Class days run four days per week. Students are expected to attend every scheduled class day of the 19-week semester.
Report an absence before 8:30 a.m. by calling or emailing the office, or by messaging your teacher in the member portal.
Students must be in attendance for at least 90% of class days in a term to receive full credit for that term.
A student who accumulates five unexcused absences in a term is placed on an attendance plan with the Principal.
Ten unexcused absences in a semester may result in loss of enrollment for the following term; tuition already paid is not refunded.
Students arriving after the second period begins are marked absent for the missed periods, even if they attend the rest of the day.
Early pickup requires a signed release at the front desk by a parent or an adult listed on the student's release form.
Extended absences of three or more consecutive days require an approved make-up plan filed with the teacher before returning.
Attendance is recorded daily in the member portal. Parents can view their own children's records at any time under Attendance.
